Mike (Singer & Guitar), Pete (Bass Guitar) and Chris (Drums)
Interview with The Bishops
- How did you guys meet?
Mike : Wefve been playing together since around the end of 2002, so itfs been about 4 years since we formed this band. Pete and I used to live in Barbican and we met Chris in a local pub.
Chris : I was working there and I got close to the local people there. Then I got introduced to them. We did some jam session at some point, and we made our first song at the end of 2002.
- Did you have any names that you would have liked to have been called apart from the Bishops?
Mike : Yeah actually, there was this band that Chris and I were doing, and we were going to call ourselves the same name but we didnft.
Chris : We didnft because in the end, the Bishop Brothers are the face of this band.
- What sort of sound are you influenced by the most past and present?
Pete : We are obviously influenced by the Beatles, the Kinks and those kind of bands from the 60s, and we are also into the 50s Rock fnf Roll sound. I really like Billy Childish as well. Mike especially like Blues singers, so the way he sings are quite Bluesy.
Mike : Presently, we are influenced by the White Stripes, danceable kinds of rock.
Pete : I went to collage with Charlie from the Rumble Strips, the vocal guy, and Vincent Vincent and the Villains. We are quite close each other fro that reason and I have some influences by them as well.
Chris : And maybe a bit of Heavy Metal influence? Ha ha.
- Really?! I didnft recognize those heavy metal influences in your music!
Pete : No you wonft recognize it, but we do have some influences from them.
Mike : About 2% of our music has got those. Ha ha.
Youtube : The Only Place I Can Look Is Down
- What were you doing before forming the band?
Mike : I was studying business at uni and Pete was doing art, so he was a painter.
Chris : I was in a band in Scotland but I moved down to London on my own wanting to form a band as I felt London would be the best place to get involved in UK music scene.
- What do you like to do when you are not doing music?
Pete : I like to go to the gallery as there are so many good galleries in London. Also I like to go to record shops, to play records at home and to catch up with my friends.
Mike : I usually do some catching-up with my friends as well as wefve been busy touring around Europe recently, and there few friends that I havenft seen for a while.
Chris : Ahc I like sleeping and drinking. Ha ha. I slept until 5pm last Sunday.
- Could you introduce the other members of the band? Could you describe what kind of people they are?
Pete : Chris is a great drummer and hard worker as well. Hefs laid-back and good fun. Hefs obviously not in the majority of being an actual Bishop! I guess it must be difficult sometimes, but wefve developed some kind of telepathy between us and he now really understands.
other. Hefs a hard-worker as well and helps me a lot.
Chris : They (Mike and Pete) are really gentlemen and good fun. They are really sensitive as well.
Mike : About Pete, we are twins but wefve got quite different personalities to each other. Hefs a hard-worker as well and helps me a lot.
- Where do you see yourselves as a band in one years time? What sort of things would you like to have achieved within the music industry?
Pete : Wefd like to be working on our second album, and, hopefully, we would have been to Japan as a band.
Mike : We really want to go to Japan because we hear so many stuff about Japan being interesting. Also wefd like to play in America. Two places in particular. Japan and America.
Pete : I wouldnft like to make any predictions yet in case they donft happen!
