Interview

- What was the direct influence to give you the idea of making breakcore tunes? What kind of music roots you have?

A: I like music that makes people freak out, forget about themselves, just go completely crazy in a pure un-self-conscious way. I first found this in the local hardcore / grindcore scene when i was growing up in Massachusetts USA, and the power of that music still influences me today. I listen to everything now, but hardcore is my roots.

- Do you have any political policy or emotional concept for your tunes? If you have any particular concept for making Breakcore, please tell us.

A: I have a lot of anti-conservative samples in my tunes. I don't get too complicated with the message or concept because meaning tends to get lost or misinterpreted in the club - I just keep it basic, fun and easy to understand. "Fuck Bush & Blair, now dance like hell!" I like a mix of consciousness and lightheartedness. Be aware, but also enjoy your life. It's the way a lot of us are living, and i think that 's a constant theme in a lot of Breakcore music.

- Do you think that is there any relation among situation of world today and Breakcore musicfs rapid growing? Please write your thinking.

A: Absolutely. All dark music genres are doing well now, including Breakcore. Metal, Grindcore, Hardcore, etc... all on the rise. I think this has to do with the state of peoples' daily lives and the palpable sense of doom in the air thanks to all the terrorism propaganda.

In the optimistic dot-com bubble times of the mid-late 90s it was impossible to play dark music where i was living, the mood in the air was all happy & blissfully oblivious. Nowadays things are quite a bit different. Today you've gotta work harder for less, and you're being filled with fear the entire time.

In the USA, Bush wants to raise already ridiculous military spending by 24%! while cutting the already meager money for schools and social programs even further. Our social fabric is decaying, and all this negative emotion has to go somewhere. Aggressive music provides a much-needed release in a positive way. Freak out in the club so you don't freak out in the world and make things worse.

- How do you expect the future of Breakcore scene? Do you think you are still composing Breakcore tunes after 10 years later?

A: I'll probably be making something hard and dark but i don't know if we'll call it Breakcore or what it will sound like. New music develops so quickly! It's exciting and impossible to predict. The only constant is that producers will always find a way to use the newest technology to make the most insane sounds. A new speaker design, new piece of gear, or new software effect could launch an entire new sound we're unable to comprehend right now.

- Which artists do you respect in Breakcore scene? And why?

A: There are so many, forgive me for leaving out some people... because almost everyone in this scene is super friendly and down to earth. sticking with artists only;

Jason Forrest for bringing in all kinds of crazy influences throughout ALL genres of different music.

Xanopticon for making amazing next-level robot music that sounds like nothing else on the planet.

Society Suckers for being all around insane and wacky.

Baseck for bringing the much needed DJ scratch element into a world of laptop sets.

All the 5lowershop people in San Francisco for bringin' it 24/7 !

DJ C isn't exactly Breakcore but that's one reason i respect him, he's an amazing producer and sounds like no one else but himself. He makes some bold moves w/ his Mashit label, mixing tons of different styles. He's open to anything.

- Please write any message to viewers who never listen Breakcore music.

A: Breakcore is still a new genre without a lot of rules, so there are HUGE variations in sound between artists. Listen to as much of it as you can and find the artists you like! go the parties! Breakcore is best experienced at a good party, you need to see it live to fully undertstand it.
