The female hormonal system can be a very complex and confusing issue for many women. Our cycles are usually taken for granted and many of us forget the importance of the period and see it as a nuisance because of the discomfort that it can cause. It is said that between 50-70% of women suffer uncomfortable periods and many compensate by taking painkillers on an ongoing basis. This month we will look at remedies to help balance the hormonal system, looking at generally toning the female organs to help promote a healthier cycle. As this topic is wide and varied and highly individual, I have chosen to focus on some types of period pains and which remedies can be useful to help alleviate them. The following few suggested remedies can help to support some of the common symptoms suffered by many during their menstrual cycle and can be used to help treat acute symptoms.
All the remedies can be taken with one another if you feel you have symptoms from more than one remedy. The remedies can be taken at 200C strength and repeated regularly at 15 minute intervals for period pains.
MAGNESIUM PHOS
Period cramps that are relieved by warmth and where the pain makes you want to bend over forwards. Usually better by applying pressure.
COLOCYNTHIS
Pain is similar to Magnesium Phos, but if you are feeling irritable on top of the pain this remedy can help calm the symptom.
BELLADONNA
Pain with heavy flow and feeling hot. There is a bearing down sensation where the pain feels heavy. You can also have the urge to moan with pain.
VIBIRNUM OPULUS
Extreme excruciating pain during period which radiates, but the pain is also associated with wind and gassiness during menstruation.
DIOSCOREA
Pain which is colicky and acute with violent cramps. Pain relieved by stretching.
SEPIA
Heavy pain where it feels like the uterus is being pulled down. Emotionally feeling tired and fed up due to stresses of work.
AGNUS CASTUS is a herbal tonic which will help to tone the female organs, helping to regulate the cycle and reduce the pain.
Out of all the herbal supplements, Agnus Castus is one which can be taken as an all round womenfs tonic and works effectively with painful periods. Take as directed by the manufacturer as the strength can vary from brand to brand.
Taking a good supplement of ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS will also help painful periods, so make sure you include foods rich in Omega 3 in your diet such as walnuts, linseed and oily fish.
FLOWER ESSENCES
The female hormonal system is very delicate and intricate, which affects the woman as a whole. This is why many suffer from feeling emotional, irrational, clumsy, forgetful etc, before, during or after their periods. One effective remedy to help would be WOMAN ESSENCE, by Australian Bush Flower, which can also assist with symptoms of PMT.
As with any disorder, individuals will have their own unique symptoms and pathology so it is important to have your case looked at holistically by a professional . It is also essential to check the reason for the pain, especially where it may be secondary pain, which means that the pain is caused by a specific condition, such as endometriosis, fibroids or an infection and not just the period itself. So always take responsibility to get yourself checked properly.
