Neaseden Control Centre

Interview with Neaseden Control Centre

- Please tell us briefly how you started the activity as Neasden Control Centre.

N: It grew and developed initially from a DIY attitude in the late 90's, making zines and one off experimental projects that were sold at art galleries around London like the ICA.Today NCC is run solely by founding member Steve Smith in collaboration with other people depending from project to project.

- Your previous book ''Neasden Control Centre'' got sold out quite quickly last time. Did you get any kind of response from the reader?

N: The response was fantastic and it sold out pretty quickly. The title still stands alone as a one off treatment of stream of consciousness drawn, torn sketchbook pages, collages and overprinting into an almost obliteration of colour into black - the colour of dreams. It was Die Gestalten's foresight that bought the project together. The title is now extremely hard to get hold of cheaply as a result of this - it was a shame the reprint never surfaced.

- Who has had the most influence towards your art?

- How did you come up with the book title ''LOST CONTROL'' ?

N: ''Lost Control'' can mean many things, it can also aspire to two main themes. Losing control of yourself to experiment, play, take bigger steps or Lost Control in a harmful way to others or ... The spectrum of these two poles interacting manifested itself together with the last 4/5 years of projects by NCC resulted in the work printed for this book. Making new artwork for this title was not hard for NCC.

- You are going to Japan end of this year, what kind of impression do you have for Japan? And what would you like to do during your stay in Tokyo?

N: Obviously looking forward to checking the technology, but of course meeting the people, eating the food, exploring the landscape, listening to the music (and buying records) etc...
